Projects

Here you can find an overview of the projects of Spencer & Blume.

World Music

Spencer & Blume compose and perform music influenced by many cultures together with musicians from all over the world.  From India to Indonesia, Ghana to Sweden, Ethiopia to Ireland, and Japan to Brazil, the instruments and styles of this global village of sounds create an imaginative landscape of new musical stories. Current focus and coming projects feature German Ethiopian singer, Menna Mulugeta, and Venezuelan multi-wind virtuoso, Pedro Eustache.

Jazz

Spencer & Blume’s newest Jazz Project is called “Jazz in Truth,” with the Jazz Art Niedersachsen Ensemble. Texts and Poems about truth by German writers dialogue with music which expresses, underlines or comments on the meaning of the spoken word. Spencer performs on MalletKat, percussion, voice & piano, Blume on harp, piano and mandolin, together with woodwind player / saxophonist Ulli Orth, bassist Johannes Schädlich and drummer Wolfgang Dahlke.

Contemporary Music

Both individually and as co-composers, the creative couple has been building a large catalogue of compositions ranging from solo marimba and piano compositions to large orchestral works. Chamber music, choir compositions and song commissions round out the diverse musical maps of their intercultural journeys. Recent results of this work include “Zalan Zalan,” for percussion soloist and orchestra, which was premiered in Taipei, Taiwan in December 2017 with commissioning soloist, Wei Chen Lin, and newly released recording of the ensemble version of Spencer’s “DJ Dog Demockracy” for Mika Stoltzman.
